MOVE OVER, It Saves Lives

Another tow truck driver killed on the side of the road.
Every time I come across an article I'm reminded to post here
the Move Over Law.

The law states if you see a tow truck driver on the shoulder,
you must move into an open lane away from the tow truck
or slow down to a safe speed.

This is the same law protecting first responders; police,
emergency vehicles and now tow trucks.

As we approach the holiday season let's all be more aware
on the road.

Let's keep it safe for

Defensive Driving Tactics

Are you getting ready for a fall/winter vacation, please stay alert on the road!

Sleep deprivation or fatigue is equal to a .08 alcohol level.
From 2009 - 2012, there's been an increase in fatal crashes involving large trucks.

The only way to protect yourself is to be overly aware while on the road and
learning a few defensive driving tactics to keep you safe.

Some things to be on the lookout for:
  • Turning with a wide radius.
  • Straddling the center of the road or lane marker
  • Almost striking an object or other vehicle.
  • Weaving or zigzagging across the road.
  • Driving on other than a designated roadway.
  • Swerving or abruptly turning away from a generally straight course.
  • Turning abruptly or illegally.
  • Driving slower than 10 mph below speed limit.
  • Stopping without cause in a traffic lane.
  • Stopping inappropriately (other than in lane).
  • Drifting or moving in a straight-line at a slight angle to the roadway.
  • Erratic braking.
  • Driving into opposing or crossing traffic.
  • Signaling that is inconsistent with driving actions.
  • Slow response to traffic signals (sudden stop, delayed start).

Delta Fire Department Training

George's Custom Towing provided a few wrecker cars and the
space for our local fire department to practice their life saving
techniques.

If you're in a wreck the Fire Department must immediately analyze the
situation and figure out the quickest way to get you out - sometimes it means
cutting off the roof of the car.

Simulation training saves lives!

We were happy to oblige the Delta Fire Department!

Press Release - Pulling for a Cure

George’s Customs Towing, a local towing company in Whiteford, MD recently unveiled a new addition to their fleet of trucks.  Pulling for a Cure hit the streets ten days ago at the Dover International Speedway NASCAR event, bringing awareness to breast cancer and all cancers.

Owner George Feilinger and General Manager Alisha Gibbons have been truly astounded by the impact their work vehicle, which was custom built by West End Services is having on the community.  Passers-by approach them and tell their stories, because as we all know – everyone in some way has been touched by cancer.  They met Cathy in a restaurant, once a 12 year breast cancer survivor and now the cancer has returned.  They met Joe whose grand-daughter Rebecca was struck down by childhood cancer.  They met Cheryl, a 10 year cancer survivor who has thrown her passion into cancer awareness through a local group Living Beyond Breast Cancer.

George’s Customs Towing has been swept up and into the Cancer Awareness Movement, their pink tow truck has become a testament of awareness and hope for the cancer community.  George’s Customs Towing has pledged to make a quarterly contribution to a local cancer group or individual in need. For George it’s personal; you will find a dedication on the truck in memory of his Grandmother Mary Glackin.

It’s not only about the survival of cancer; it’s also about the ability to thrive once the cancer has been contained.  This sentiment can be visually seen on the hood of the Pulling for a Cure tow truck, which was skillfully designed by Jack of Arts.  Billowing storm clouds ascend into rays of light representing the darkness that cancer brings and the light rays represent hope and healing.
Expect to see Pulling for a Cure at many local community cancer awareness events in Harford County.
