A Message from AAA


Governor O'Malley expanded the State of Maryland's

Move Over laws to now include Tow Truck Operators.

This law went into effect October 1, 2014 and

comes with a hefty fine of $500 if not adhered to.

The law states if you see a tow truck driver on the shoulder, 

you must move into an open lane away from the tow truck 

or slow down to a safe speed.

This is the same law protecting first responders; police, 

emergency vehicles and now tow trucks.

Gearing Up for Daytona 500

Once a sport that began on country back roads, NASCAR has hit

the fast lane in terms of popularity.  NASCAR, which stands for

National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, is now the 

No. 1 spectator sport in the country and a business that earns

billions of dollars each year.

Stock car racing traces its history back to the days of Prohibition,

when drivers who ran moonshine secretly transported their illegal

product using cars they had modified to increase not only cargo space,

but also speed in order to outrun police. When Prohibition ended,

many drivers - especially those in the rural South continued racing

for profit and entertainment.

In 1947, Bill France Sr., a former driver and race promoter in

Daytona Beach, Fl, gathered the racing community to discuss the 

idea of a governing body and NASCAR was born a year later. It's

first sanctioned race was held Feb. 15, 1958.

NASCAR'S biggest race is the Daytona 500, which begins the nine

month racing season each February.

been waived from January 25th - March 7th,

allowing residents with single family homes, townhomes, 

detached garages and sheds to make repairs

without having to get a permit.

Shout Out for Charlie!

 Just a quick note to let you know that one of your drivers who helped us today, went above and beyond the call of duty; his name is Charlie.

We live on Heaps Road and the snow plowing that was done was insufficient for us to drive up the steap hill toward 543.  Our car slid backwards into a snow bank, and after trying (unsuccessfully)  to dig out, we knew we were stuck.

We called AAA for roadside assistance, and it was our good luck that Charlie from George's showed up.  Not only was he prompt, but he was very polite, knew what to do, and even helped us with driving on the thin ice that was now coating Heaps Road as a result of the melting snow.

This man is a definite asset to your business !

Preparing for Winter Driving 

How to Drive in Snow and Ice

The three key elements to safe winter driving are:

• Stay alert; 
• Slow down; and 
• Stay in control

It is best to winterize your vehicle before winter strikes.  

Schedule a maintenance check-up for the vehicle’s tires and tire pressure, 

battery, belts and hoses, radiator, oil, lights, brakes, exhaust system, 

heater/defroster, wipers and ignition system. Keep your gas tank 

sufficiently full – at least half a tank is recommended. Depending upon 

where you drive, you may consider using winter tires or tire chains.
