Tow Truck Driver Finds Dead Man

............this is getting over the top serious.  I remember recently reporting
here about an injured toddler that was discovered in a wrecked vehicle after
the tow truck had towed the damaged vehicle from the scene of the accident.

Last week it happened again.  Highway patrol called in a tow truck to
remove a wrecked vehicle from the accident scene.  Tow truck company tows
the car back to the lot, opens the vehicle door to put the vehicle in park
and sees "legs" protruding out from under the blown out airbags.

What?

and more

Well, this sounds like a wake up call for the towing industry.
Be ever vigilant! You may want to spend just a few
seconds more checking out the vehicle you're towing
to prevent the shock of your life.

..........and NO, I don't believe this responsibility
should be on the tow truck driver.
But it seems mistakes are happening, so be aware.

Oh Where, Oh Where is Santa

The North American Aerospace Defense Command
has been tracking Santa since 1955.  The tracking system
alerts families around the globe to the whereabouts of Santa
and his reindeer.

Children of all ages can follow the countdown to Santa's visit at:

NORAD tracks the whereabouts of Santa using infrared
technology..........and of course Rudolph's nose!

Rudolph's nose gives off an infrared signature
similar to a missile launch.  Satellites detect Rudolph's
bright red nose with no problem.

Take a moment to find out where Santa is in your neck of the woods.

Be careful on the roads while out doing your last minute shopping.
Having car trouble...............be sure to call us!

The Traveling Fruitcake!

It's tradition to pass along the fruitcake............or is that a myth?

I think I had fruitcake once in my life - so I can say
that I've tasted fruitcake!  So where did all the stories come from:
Auntie Em bakes a fruitckake
gives it to Grandma,
Grandmas passes it along to her daughter,
who passes it along to her best friend,
who passes it along to................
The Traveling Fruitcake

So, does anyone actually eat the fruitcake and
what's so horrible about fruitcake?

My Gram use to say:  A fruitcake has everything in it,
but the kitchen sink!

Here's a recipe I came across:

Great Grandma's Fruitcake

Make 3 or 4 weeks in advance

3 cups maraschino cherries
2 cups chopped dates
2 cups pineapple tidbits
1 cup coconut
2 cups walnut halves
1 cups pecan halves
2-12 oz packages of semi-sweet chocolate chips

Beat the following ingredients on low for 30 seconds, then on
high for 3 minutes:
3 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup shortening
3/4 cup softened butter
2/3 cups creme' de cacao
1/2 cup cocoa powder
9 eggs

1. Pour batter over fruit and nut mixture.  Fold together.  Pour into 2 well greased loaf pans.
Bake at 275 degrees for 2 1/2 - 3 hours.
After 2 hours, check with a toothpick every 15 minutes.

2.  When cool, set each loaf on a large piece of plastic and pour a jigger of
creme de cacao over each of them.  Wrap tightly and
place inside a ziploc bag, keep refrigerated three to four weeks.

I would call that a labor of love............

So, we're passing along the tradition of the
traditional Christmas favorite - or not!

Just in case.........

First Day of Winter

Winter Solstice, otherwise known as the first day of winter
and today would be that day!

December 21, 2016

The Winter Solstice

Winter inspires both joy and woe. Some people can't wait for the cooler weather, snow, skiing and ice skating, curling up by a fire, and the holiday spirit. Other people dislike the frigid temperatures, blizzards, and wild weather.

The word solstice comes from the Latin words for "sun" and "to stand still.” In the Northern Hemisphere, as summer advances to winter, the points on the horizon where the Sun rises and sets advance southward each day; the high point in the Sun’s daily path across the sky, which occurs at local noon, also moves southward each day. At the winter solstice, the Sun’s path has reached its southernmost position. The next day, the path will advance northward. However, a few days before and after the winter solstice, the change is so slight that the Sun’s path seems to stay the same, or stand still. The Sun is directly overhead at "high-noon" on Winter Solstice at the latitude called the Tropic of Capricorn.

Winter solstice is the day with the fewest hours of sunlight during the whole year. In the Northern Hemisphere, it occurs around December 21 or 22. In the Southern Hemisphere, around June 20 or 21.

Wishing you a happy Winter Solstice
