June Awareness - Driving Safety

During National Safety Month in June, one of the key focus areas is Driving Safety. This week highlights the importance of safe driving practices and encourages individuals to prioritize safety on the road. Here are some key aspects of June's Driving Safety focus:

Distracted Driving: Avoid distractions while driving. Keep your focus on the road and avoid activities such as texting, talking on the phone, eating, or using electronic devices. If necessary, pull over in a safe location to address any distractions or use hands-free devices for communication.

Seat Belt Usage: Always wear your seat belt and ensure that all passengers are properly restrained. Seat belts significantly reduce the risk of injuries or fatalities in the event of a crash. Make it a habit to buckle up before starting the vehicle.

Speeding: Observe posted speed limits and adjust your speed according to road and weather conditions. Speeding significantly increases the likelihood of accidents and the severity of injuries. Allow sufficient time for your journeys and maintain a safe and appropriate speed.

Impaired Driving: Never drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substances that impair your ability to operate a vehicle safely. Designate a sober driver or use alternative transportation options if you plan to consume alcohol or use medications that can impair your driving abilities.

Defensive Driving: Practice defensive driving techniques by anticipating and responding to potential hazards. Maintain a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead, use your turn signals, check blind spots, and be prepared for unexpected actions by other drivers. Stay vigilant and observe your surroundings.

Avoid Fatigued Driving: Get enough rest before long drives and take breaks as needed to combat fatigue. Fatigue can impair your reaction time and decision-making abilities, making you more susceptible to accidents. If you feel drowsy, pull over in a safe area and rest before continuing.

Weather Conditions: Adjust your driving behavior based on weather conditions. Be cautious in rain, snow, fog, or other adverse weather situations. Reduce your speed, increase your following distance, and use appropriate signals and headlights.

Vehicle Maintenance: Maintain your vehicle in good working condition. Regularly check the brakes, tires, lights, and fluid levels. Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule and address any mechanical issues promptly.

Share the Road: Respect other road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists. Yield to pedestrians at crosswalks, give cyclists and motorcyclists enough space, and be aware of their presence on the road.

Stay Informed: Stay up to date with traffic laws, regulations, and road conditions in your area. Be aware of any changes or updates that may affect your driving practices.

By practicing safe driving habits and being mindful of road safety, you can help prevent accidents, protect yourself and others, and contribute to a safer driving environment. Use June's Driving Safety focus as a reminder to review and reinforce good driving practices.

Celebrating Our Flag - 6/14/24

People across the United States celebrate Flag Day June 14th.

This is also the same day that the United States Army celebrates their birthday.

Flag day falls within Flag week as the celebrations continue and American's reflect
on the foundations of the nation's freedom.

The flag of the United States represents Freedom.  Americans remember their loyalty
to the nation, reaffirm their belief in liberty and justice and observe the nation's unity.

The American Flag, also nicknamed "old glory" has changed designs
over the centuries.  It consists of 13 equal horizontal stripes of red
(top and bottom) alternating with white, with a blue rectangle
in the canton bearing 50 small white pointed stars.  Each of the 50 stars
represents the 50 states in the United States and the 13 stripes
represent the original 13 colonies that became the first states
in the union.

We salute in honor and reverence.
