A Message from AAA


Governor O'Malley has expanded the State of Maryland's

Move Over laws to now include Tow Truck Operators.

This law went into effect October 1, 2014 and

comes with a hefty fine of $500 if not adhered to.

The law states if you see a tow truck driver on the shoulder, 

you must move into an open lane away from the tow truck 

or slow down to a safe speed.

This is the same law protecting first responders; police, 

emergency vehicles and now tow trucks.

Truth in Advertising

..........well I took a chance, that maybe just once there was some truth

in a commercial that I've been seeing lately from AARP Auto insurance program.

As in "we will lower your auto insurance payments by $400/month"..........

The real catch for me and what prompted me to go to their website and

spend 8 minutes completing the application was the renew- ability clause

they offered.  This is perhaps the only reason I've stayed with my current 

insurance company State Farm - they can never cancel my policy due to

an accident, not that I ever have accidents.

To make a long story short...... the AARP insurance would

cost me $720 more per year than what I currently pay State Farm and

for less coverage............
(well, I suppose if one person saves $400 then there is some truth in advertising)

So, now AARP has all my personal information and

I can already feel the onslaught of emails that will be

arriving in my in-box.  But hey, I truly believed that maybe

this one time there would be truth in advertising. NOT!

So while I was fiddling with my State Farm policy

I realized that I had towing coverage and I am

covered for a rental car too!  Well that takes the edge off!

I know that if I were stranded, my main priority would be

to get a tow truck to my location as soon as possible.  I

wouldn't necessarily be thinking about whether or not my insurance

covered this situation.  So maybe it's a good time to take

a look at your policy too!

Niagara Falls is Frozen

Niagara Falls is frozen........and so is every other body of water along

the east coast.  Lakes, ponds and even some rivers.  The Hudson River

has solid slabs of ice floating on its surface requiring a tug boat to go out

ahead of the Staten Island Ferry, parting the ice chunks so the ferry can make 

it across the river from Manhattan to Staten Island.

The death toll from this bitter winter stands at 20.

As the snow melts, what lies below is black ice making the roads 

even that much more perilous. 

Although we wish we could turn over and stay in-doors, daily

life seems to go on.  Commuters rushing to and from work,

getting children off to school and the usual daily

activities.

Winter's wrath has taken its toll..........and we're weary from it all.

Put the cell phones away and truly be alert on the roads for

your safety and the safety of those around you.  Be

hyper vigilant on the road, it's almost too easy to

find yourself in an ice skid.  Take the extra time to

drive a little slower than usual.

Daytona 500 Qualifying

 

For the first time ever Daytona 500 Qualifying,

which traditionally features single-car qualifying, has switched to the group

qualifying format to set the front row positions.

....and therein lies the problem, especially for

car #15, Clint Bowyer.  Within minutes of his

qualifying round, a bad multi car wreck

destroyed several cars including #15.

Our race recovery team was assigned #15. We're sharing some pictures

here from FOXNews.

From all reports Clint Bowyer is not a happy camper of the

new NASCAR qualifying rules,  he stated the intensive work that most 

drivers put into their cars up to six months before a race, only to be destroyed

during qualifying....."idiotic" were Clint's exact words!
